When to Start a Bottle

I planned to breastfeed if it was going to work for me and after some perserverence it did and 6 months down the track am still breastfeeding.

My little man would not latch on one side for the first couple of weeks, I took him to a cranial osteopath who did the cranial sucral (spelling?) stuff on him and that helped heaps, he favoured turning his head to one side probably a result of him not being totally straight during labour and head slightly tilted.

So I expressed and bottle fed the one side to him for the first bit.

He would take a bottle fine and I got a bit lazy and didn’t give him one for quite sometime, then when we tried again at 4 and a 1/2 months, he hadn’t had one for 6-8 weeks he wouldn’t have a bar of it.

That was with the avent bottles we had originally been using.

So tried the tommee tippee supposed to be like a breast bottles and after not too much trouble he would take it.   (Or you could also try the Chu Chu teats that Breastmates have)

Thankfully we didn’t have to starve him to get him to take it.

Next time round I will make sure I give baby a bottle once a week from the start!”
